A Challenge and a Visit

Weight: 254.1
BMI: 43.61

I'm up .4 day to day but not going to stress it. I barely got any sleep and I ate macaroni and cheese last night (not ideal, but okay in terms of calories range).

I was having problems sleeping last night, so I ended up trolling blog land and stumbling upon the Give a Gift to Yourself 2009 challenge. After reading through the rules and debating it a bit, I decided to sign up and maybe get involved. I've been looking for a more organized thing to participate in in blogworld besides just commenting/following etc. I tried joining Operation Fat Blaster, but I've sort of been having problems finding my way around the site, figuring out how to get involved, etc. The 16 week GAG challenge (yes, that's how they're abbreviating it) seems like it might be a nice fit. An extra bit of motivation, extra bit of community, something slightly new to do. I hesitated over the fact that we need to post a picture, but since I've been thinking that I probably ought to post a progress when I hit 250 anyway, I figured I'd get over it and just agree. I'd encourage you all to go check it out if you're into challenges. You must register before September 1st, so if you want to get in, now's your shot.

Yesterday my brother told me he's coming down to DC for a friend's bachelor party on Labor Day weekend. He asked if he could stay with me (I said of course) and is going to come down early for it so we can hang out a bit. I haven't seen him since the end of June.

My brother is amazing. He's the only one in my family who's not overweight. (My mom's heavier than me, and my Dad's on the chubby side.) He's my inspiration in so many ways. He's such a hard worker and such a nice, wonderful guy. I always wish I was more like him.

I saw my parents about a week and a half into my diet, but I haven't seen any members of my family since then. I doubt the changes thus far will be noticeable to a casual observer like my brother (24 pounds might seem like a lot, but it's only 8.6% of my body weight). If he did notice, I doubt he'd comment. It's just not something he'd say. Still, it seems like a big deal. I'm excited/happy/worried. I guess we'll see what happens.

  3. Don't be surprised if he does notice! And certainly he'll notice the change in the way you think, act, and feel. Tha's one of the things I've discovered...Losing weight makes a positive impact on EVERYTHING we do, touch, see, feel, hear...everything. It's a wonderful journey Hadley, happy to be reading along as you progress!

    My best always

  4. Your brother sounds really nice, I'm sure you two will have a great visit!
And I understand your mixed feelings with regards to will he notice/or won't he? I'm sure he will even if he doesn't say anything.
Thank you so much for the incredibly sweet comment you left for me yesterday. I DO have a great family, and yesterday I ignored all housework and we had a fun family day at the beach instead.

  5. Have a great time with your brother! :) Even if he doesn't say anything about your weight loss it doesn't mean he didn't notice, like you said.

  6. Good luck on the challenge!
I use Operation Fat Blaster mostly for the discussion boards and challenges (though I haven't done a challenge in a few weeks).

  7. 24 pounds is nothing to down-play. So be proud of yourself. He might not notice the weight difference but he will notice your spirit. My brother is really nervous about commenting on weight so it never comes up. He is a total workout freak so I always hit him up for good workout moves. He loves to talk about that kind of stuff.

P.S. Thanks for the comment on weight in the workplace. It's nice to hear it from a close source.

  8. Awesome about your brother visiting! If he doesnt notice, point it out anyways! LOL Sometimes waiting for a compliment can be the worst feeling. And 24 pounds is awesome, make sure you keep it up.

I always sign up for challenges and then quit because I fail. Ive been doing pretty good with this Jillian thing though, so maybe Im ready...

Im proud of your success, so congrats to you for signing up!

  9. I'm so glad I found your blog because now I've found the challenge.

I saw my dad when I had lost 11-12% of my body weight, and he noticed. I was very surprised that he did. I went into the visit thinking he wouldn't and that I'd be fine with that - no expectations. So perhaps your brother will...perhaps he won't. But YOU know. And WE know. And the next visit, he won't be able to NOT notice.

I'm seeing my dad again for Labor Day. It's been over a year and now I'm between 23-24%. I can't help feeling it should be more in that time. But again...I know I'm making progress. That's what's important!

  10. Thanks for joining us on GAG! It is sure to be worth the effort it will take to get through the entire 16 weeks. I don't about you, but I sure need FOCUS when it comes to food particularly that time of year ~ which is why GAG was birthed! :)
